New York City - Four 18-year-old men were killed after a car was sliced in half in a Long Island crash that occurred October 8, 2012, reports New York City auto accident lawyer Jonathan C Reiter. The crash occurred at approximately 4 am along a stretch of the Southern State Parkway known as Dead Man’s Curve, explains Reiter.

The four victims were ejected from the 2012 Subaru Impreza as it crashed into trees along the parkway. The driver, Joseph Beer, a 17-year-old with only a learner’s permit, survived the crash, but was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A nearby neighbor told the press, “I’ve lived here for 10 years and there has been an accident almost in that exact spot every year, but never one as horrific as this.”

Authorities reported they suspected the driver “was high” when the Subaru slid across the road, sailing into a cluster of trees, explained a law enforcement source.

As the driver only held a learner’s permit, he was not supposed to be driving between 9pm and 5am without a 21-year-old supervising driver, nor was he to be carrying passengers under the age of 21 who were not family members.

The investigation will include an examination of a “black box” in Beer’s car, which could reveal the conditions before the crash. Investigators are reportedly working with Subaru to read it.
